Happiness Festival

March 20th is the International Day of Happiness.

The past year has been very hard for everyone so let’s find positive ways to look after ourselves and each other.

Join us online 19th March – 21st March 2021 when we will be releasing free activities each day for you and your loved ones to join in with.

Friday 19th March 2021

My Beautiful

A short film which looks at the beautiful in your area.

Created by the children from Step Out at Earl Marshal Youth Club, Artist Lois Conlan and Turning the Page’s Courtenay Crichton-Turley.

Friday 19th 6pm

Learn how to create a Family Journal

with Ignite Imaginations artist Charlotte.

All you will need to join in is: a note book, colourful paper, felt tips or crayons and some glue.

Henna Workshop

Join the talented Sumayya who will teach you about Henna in a how-to Henna video for beginners.

Saturday 20th March 2021

Start the morning off with some baking.

Learn how to make Gingerbread families with local chef Tom!

All you will need is:

350g plain flour, 1tsp cinnamon, 1tsp bicarbonate of soda, 1tbsp of ginger, 175g soft brown sugar, 1 medium egg, 4 tbsp golden syrup, If you don’t have a mixer just use your hands 🙂

Are your gingerbread families too good to eat?

Then why not join in with Ignite Imaginations artist Helen and learn how to make gingerbread family bunting for your home. All you will need to join in is: spare material, colourful thread, buttons or beads, scissors, a pen and a sewing needle.

Let’s Dance the Night Away Saturday 20th 2021 6pm

Hear Terezia introduce the wonderful work she is doing with Care for Young People, and introduce this beautiful array of how-to-dance community videos. Learn about the wonderful culture behind these dances, whilst also giving them a go!

Our first dance is a  Russian Gypsy dance, taught by Saeeda Kasym who is a Romani/Gypsy dancer, belly dance Instructor, performer and choreographer. To see more of her wonderful work click here. and if you would like to learn more about Russian Gypsy Dances click here.

The next dance we have lined up is an Indian Wedding Dance displayed by Lado and a special thank you to Asia Walia.

Now to give your legs a breather (though we bet you can’t stop your toes from tapping along) we have Rosa Cisneros showing us the rhythm and hand movements for a Flamenco dance. Follow her on twitter @RosaSenCis, listen to her podcast here and watch her YouTube channel here.

Next up we have a Romanian Folk Dance, performed by Florentina Marta Popescu

Let’s Get Crafty

Ignite Imaginations artist Lois Conlan will show you how to make clay mobiles of the places you love.

All you will need to join in is: quick dry clay, or some salt dough, a long stick, clay knife and some wool.

To continue with the craft theme follow along with Ignite Imaginations artist Jordanna who will teach you how to make graffiti posters for your windows!

All you will need to join in is: coloured paper, colouring pens, a pencil, scissors and a rubber.
